UK marketing and IT managers ‘shirk’ website management role

Antony Savvas

UK marketing communications and IT managers "are shirking their responsibility for website management", says global information management firm SDL Tridion.

SDL commissioned a survey of 200 senior IT and marcomms staff in the UK and the US, and found that those in the UK are more likely to delegate web management to juniors than their US counterparts.

The survey found that 88% of UK senior marcomms managers are not involved in managing their website, compared with 67% in the US.

Furthermore, with 77% of senior IT managers in the US getting involved, compared with just 37% in the UK, US businesses are leaving the UK trailing behind when it comes to prioritising website communications, said SDL.

British businesses are risking the success of their communications by leaving web content management in the hands of junior IT and marcomms staff, said SDL.

"Senior staff who shirk responsibility for their websites are missing a trick. Websites remain a vital channel of communication with customers, prospects and partners," SDL said.
