Bournemouth will see its first 100mbps broadband homes connected by March.

H2O Networks chose Bournemouth to become the UK's first fibre-optic broadband "Fibrecity" in May 2008. The network relies on the underground sewer system to feed cables to customers' homes.

H2O said it will connect the first 30 homes to its £30m network in Bournemouth by March 2009.

The Bournemouth Daily Echo reported that more than 5,500 local residents and businesses have already signed-up for the H2O service.

Dundee will become the first H2O Fibrecity in Scotland.
