Sheffield City Council has awarded software and services group Civica a £45m contract to contribute to the nine year Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Essex County Council is also using Civica to provide the foundation for a shared learning environment for schools across the county, in a £3.3m contract.

"We are delighted," said Simon Downing, chief executive at Civica. "We believe both programmes can transform the educational environment for the benefit of students, teachers, schools and parents."
