EMC and Dell launch low-end storage product

Dell Computer and enterprise storage vendor EMC are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their alliance with the launch of a low-end storage system.

The Clariion CX 200 is a new entry-level storage product and is the result of both companies working together, said Steve Lewis, head of the storage division for Dell in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

"There is a tremendous amount of cooperation between the two companies," Lewis said, adding that Dell plans to manufacture the CX 200 systems in-house.

The CX 200 is the third in a line of Clariion CX Fibre Channel arrays for midsize companies and branch offices. EMC earlier this month introduced the Clariion CX 400, following the launch in August of the CX 600.

The CX 200 will be available worldwide from December, Lewis said. Pricing information and technical details were not immediately available.

Dell and EMC formed a five-year, multibillion-dollar alliance last October to sell the cobranded EMC Clariion portfolio of enterprise storage systems. Initially only a reseller pact, the relationship has since been extended to include product development and manufacturing.
