Nortel offers optical Wan storage

EMC and Nortel Networks have formed an alliance to provide optically-networked storage products for mission-critical storage networking over campus, metro and wide area systems, writes Eric Doyle.

In tests, the companies have linked Nortel's customer relationship management applications across an optically-networked storage infrastructure.
Bill Nelson, EMC's senior vice-president for content and information centre markets, explained, "By creating an optically-enabled network that supports fast and reliable delivery of information, we will be giving customers the tools to deploy new revenue-generating applications, while reducing operational costs."

Products covered by the alliance include Nortel's Optera 5200 and 3500 optical transport systems and EMC's Symmetrix storage system, Connectrix storage network and Symmetrix Remote Data Facility storage software.
