Virtual telecoms company Skype has hired Yahoo's vice-president for customer engineering Madhu Yarlagadda as its new chief development officer to look after Skype's engineering and development initiatives.
Madhu was with Yahoo for 11 years, during which he was also vice-president of engineering for Yahoo communities, which covered messenger, voice (VoIP), video, Flickr and Yahoo groups. He helped make Yahoo Messenger the biggest messaging client in the US, beating ICQ, AIM, MSN Messenger and Google Talk.
Dan Berg, CTO at Skype, will remain at the company to manage a smooth transition.
Earlier in his career, Madhu was founder and CTO of ISSG, an enhanced telecommunications application provider, where he was responsible for establishing successful relationships with major telecommunications providers.
