Allied Irish Bank (AIB) has become the latest
organisation to admit to a security breach as 15,000 payment advice
slips got sent to the wrong addresses following a technical
problem.
With the
HMRC debacle headline news this does little to restore
confidence in data protection.
An AIB Statement said, "A technical problem occurred in the
issuing of these advice notices to some AIB customers that made
international payments between the 13th and 15th November 2007.
This affected 15,000 payment advices, which were sent in error to
the wrong customers."
The company stressed that no customer accounts have been
incorrectly debited, and all payments were processed in accordance
with customer instructions.
AIB said it has informed the Office of the Data Protection
Commissioner.
