Huawei has partnered with EE and Qualcomm to work on LTE Category 9 testing to improve wireless download speeds.
The firms came together to complete the testing and have achieved download speeds of up to 410Mbps.
The testing used Huawei’s infrastructure system alongside EE’s LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) 4G network and Qualcomm’s processors to achieve the high speeds.
According to Qualcomm Europe senior vice-president and president Enrico Salvatori, moving from Category 6 to Category 9 LTE-A connectivity will mean 1.5 times faster peak download speeds, as well as "swift application response times, reliable connectivity and connections to the fastest networks."
Huawei’s chief marketing officer of the firm's wireless division Yang Chaobin said the LTE test results are positive as the industry moves towards the 5G era.
This level of testing will help the firms to improve download speeds for wireless networks by integrating sections of three of EE’s carriers – 20MHz of 1800MHz, 20MHz of 2.6GHz and 15MHz of another 2.6GHz carrier.

This will help the three firms to work on interoperability testing of carriers such as these, and eventually lead to commercial deployment of faster wireless networks.
EE director of network services and devices Tom Bennett said working closely with Qualcomm and Huawei on the next-generation LTE Category 9 connectivity enables the firm to make full use of its spectrum of holdings and stay ahead of other operators in Europe.
“Use of our remaining 15MHz of 2.6GHz spectrum enables both our fastest speeds and an increase in capacity across our network, and this successful testing phase is a big step forward. We look forward to demonstrating this at Wembley Stadium early next year,” he said.
EE and Huawei are both working on the development of 5G and have previously collaborated on the launch of EE’s 4G network in 2012.
EE has switched on its LTE-A network at 150 sites in central London and launched its 4G+ product earlier in October 2014.
In November 2014, Huawei invested in advancing 5G technology by ploughing £5m in the University of Surrey’s 5G innovation centre alongside companies such as EE, Vodafone and Samsung.
5G technology is expected to become commercially available in around 2020.
During a 5G debate Conservative MP and former minister David Willetts claimed 5G will make the internet of things possible, as well as provide a continuous connection between devices, rather than the person-to-person connections often seen today.
