What to ask prospective suppliers

A key task for IT directors in all industry sectors is choosing the right outsourcing supplier

A key task for IT directors in all industry sectors is choosing the right outsourcing supplier. However, the booming outsourcing market has become increasingly crowded with suppliers, many of which claim to have unique qualities.

Consultancy WCI has published research on this issue, including key questions IT directors should ask prospective outsourcing suppliers.

The survey, conducted by analyst firm IDC, questioned IT directors at approximately 50 medium-sized companies and outlined a checklist, including:

lCan a supplier provide a system quickly, preferably in three to six months? Mid-market companies want to take advantage of their agility and feel the benefits fast.

lIs a partner willing to work on a payment by results basis? In a tough environment, mid-market companies need a partner that gets paid as the system works, not just when it is in place.

lA partner that has experience in compliance and IT security is essential. "The auditors are not going away and you need someone to guide you safely through the regulatory maze. IT security can trip up even the big players so find a partner with a holistic approach," said the research.
