According to telecoms consultancy BroadGroup, the cheapest unlimited service in Europe is Wind, in Italy, which costs £10.50 for unlimited monthly GPRS use. This compares to the most expensive, Orange France, at £83 for its unlimited GPRS package.
BroadGroup found inclusive megabyte pricing was the most common tariff structure among the 83 mobile operators across the 31 countries studied.
However, such schemes are more expensive than per-megabyte pricing, according to Philip Low of BroadGroup. He said that although the average per megabyte price was £1.40 excluding taxes, the equivalent average megabyte cost for bundled schemes was £3.
"Pricing needs to be accessible and the complexity associated with GPRS pricing must also change," Low said.
