Large firms fail to deploy mobile-usage policies

Large enterprises are failing to establish mobile technology usage policies across their businesses.

The latest predictions on enterprise mobility from analyst Gartner includes the estimate that only 50% of large enterprises will have a single policy covering all aspects of mobility by 2010.

This is despite the fact that the number of mobile applications deployed by enterprises to their employees will continue to grow by 30% per year until 2011, said the analyst.

"Organisations need to stop treating mobility projects as a one-off exercise," said Leif-Olof Wallin, an analyst at Gartner. "There are no technology panaceas. Successfully implementing enterprise mobility requires a balance among technology, applications, people and policies."
