Amazon Cloud Drive users can now take advantage of two unlimited online storage plans, as the retail giant prepares to do battle with the likes of Dropbox, Google and Microsoft.
The first plan allows users to store an infinite number of images online for $11.99 (£8) a year, and the second – The Unlimited Everything Plan – permits people to store a multitude of file types, including documents, photos, videos and music, for $59.99 (£40) a year.
Users can also choose to take advantage of a three-month free trial for both storage plans before signing up.
Josh Petersen, director of Amazon Cloud Drive, said: “With the two new plans we are introducing today, customers don’t need to worry about storage space – they now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, music and files in one convenient place.”
The company already offers unlimited photo storage to owners of its Amazon Fire devices and members of its Amazon Prime programme, which also provides users with speedy product deliveries and access to on-demand TV services.

A number of Amazon's competitors – including Dropbox, Google and Microsoft – already offer unlimited storage, but it is usually only available to business users or those operating in specific verticals.
For example, Dropbox for Business and Google Drive for Work both promise unlimited storage for corporate users, and Microsoft ditched online storage limits for its Office 365 subscriber base in October 2014.
The Amazon Cloud Drive proposition is open to anyone who signs up to either plan, and could, potentially, pave the way for its competitors to widen the range of customers to whom they offer unlimited storage.
It is also markedly cheaper than competing offerings from Dropbox and Google, with the cost of using The Unlimited Everything Plan working out at about $5 (£3.35) a month, which could attract business users.
Google Drive for Work is free to use for the first 30 days and then costs $10 (£6.71) per user per month, while Dropbox for Business comes with a 14-day free trial and costs about $16 (£11) per user per month thereafter.
