Suppliers unite to create portal tools website
Users are set to benefit from the launch of an open source portal development site by a group of portal technology suppliers.
The Portlet Open Source Trading site (Post) offers tools and portal components to build Java and Linux-driven sites.
It has the backing of the Java Community Process, which developed portal standard JSR 168, and standards body Oasis, which introduced the Linux-based WSRP portal standard.
The site has the support of Sun, IBM, Oracle, BEA Systems, Plumtree and Documentum, but a Microsoft spokeswoman said she was unsure whether the company had been invited to contribute.
Gartner research director Ray Valdes said, "The emergence of portal standards, combined with a means of sharing standards-based portal components, will potentially provide great benefit to portal customers by increasing choice and reducing costs."
