Despite the injection of cash into public sector IT, in most sectors the spending slowdown of 2002 seems set to continue, according to the IT managers and directors surveyed in this week's Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question poll.

Of the IT bosses questioned, only 30% expect to increase their IT spending in real terms this year, compared to 65% who anticipate no such spending boost.

With a tough year ahead, analyst firm Gartner advised IT directors across all sectors to shut down redundant legacy systems, prepare for consolidation among IT suppliers and take steps to raise IT's credibility within the organisation.
