Microsoft has been voted the number one brand in the UK
after knocking Google off the top in anannual survey of business brands.
There were three technology firms in the top ten with Apple
making the exclusive club for the first time.
Google was voted the third best brand, after the Centre for
Brand Analysis analysed the brands, while Apple came in at number
9. This is Apple's first appearance in the top 10.
The Superbrands report for 2009 put Microsoft at the top of 500
companies analysed in all sectors of the economy. The software
giant has regained the position it lost to Google last year.
Stephen Cheliotis, CEO at the Centre for Brand Analysis said
this year's survey reaffirms some of the downturn's winners and
losers.
"Bearing in mind that thousands of brands are initially
considered, actually making the top 500 itself is an achievement:
the competition amongst brands for consumer attention and share of
wallet is intense and growing fiercer."
