Most firms say IT delivers business benefits, but many
do not measure the performance of their IT, a survey has
shown.
Almost two-thirds of firms say they are convinced they get
significant value from their IT activities, although a fifth of
firms do not determine IT resources based on business
priorities.
A worldwide survey of 750 CEO-
and CIO-level executives commissioned by the non-profit,
independent
IT Governance Institute (ITGI) has revealed that 60% of
organisations surveyed say the organisation is getting a lot of
value out of IT activities.
Some of the benefits cited included delivering better customer
relations, risk management at a lower cost or creating higher
product leadership.
International president of ITGI, Lynn Lawton, said, "What stood
out for me was the 20% of respondents who do not determine their IT
resource requirements based on business priorities! So what do they
base them on?"
Lawton also pointed out that the survey revealed that only 54%
of firms have implemented, or are implementing, performance
measurement for IT.
