I have steered well clear of the arguments over the Digital Economy Bill currently going through Parliaments. Today I was sent a copy of the wonderful piece of “clarification” drafted by BIS with a commentary on its likely effect on legitimate businesse. The thinking is straight out of Alice in Wonderland. I have also been sent a splendid cartoon which summarises the problem.
This is one of those pieces of legislation that reminds me of the guidance from the late John McWilliam. When you are faced with a piece of legislation that is unworkable it may be better to leave it alone, let it pass and watch it sink without trace, unimplemented because unimplementable. If you try to improve it there is a risk that somebody might try to make it work.
I am keeping well clear of this one.
