Users list top IT security concerns

These are some of the top IT security concerns as mentioned by users at an informal discussion at the City IT and IT Security Forum aboard the Aurora cruise ship last week:

1) Knowing what information you have to keep, what would cause damage if it leaked, and what can be deleted

2) Data loss and leaks

3) Getting employees to comply with company security policy

4) Data ownership

5) Whether to ban social networking sites

6) Internal IT-related fraud

7) E-investigations

And some tips from the discussion:

– If sensitive data needs to be transferred from occasional end-users to a large organisation, put it on a disc, encrypt it using WinZip 11, and send it by courier.

– Visit the website Get safe online – for top safety tips

– Use Sanctuary Device control to identify all devices that are connected or have ever been connected to network assets –  www.lumension.com
