Video: Xbox's Project Natal is 3D motion sensing gone amazing

We all knew Microsoft was looking to release something to come up against the Wii but this is something extra wow. A camera, depth sensor and microphone in one device able to track your movements and space.

So basically, it’ll completely track your body movements in 3D (inc depth). This is Microsoft’s answer to Nintendo’s Wiimote which, for those of you that have been in a coma, a wand that’s movements are tracked by the Wii.

The possibilities are endless and this type of technology completely blows Nintendo out of the water. Imagine being able to manipulate and interact with not just games but art 
You can flick through menus using your  hands. The camera has facial and voice recognition so your Xbox can recognize your face and sign you in automatically!!

But has it come too late? I say no. Despite Nintendo having such a massive lead in the market share the Xbox 360 is only £130 and a killer product like this can reinvigorate sales immensely.

What we are finding now is that Wii sales have slowed down and people have generally got very bored of the limited motion-sensing the Wii has to offer. I bought one and I rarely play it due to the limited ‘Gamer’ games (ie GTA) and the fact that I can only play Wii Sports for so long.

Microsoft will look to blow Sony away with Project Natal as they lag behind in the motion-sensing war.

Microsoft Say:

Compatible with any Xbox 360 system, the “Project Natal” sensor is the world’s first to combine an RGB camera, depth sensor, multi-array microphone and custom processor running proprietary software all in one device. Unlike 2-D cameras and controllers, “Project Natal” tracks your full body movement in 3-D, while responding to commands, directions and even a shift of emotion in your voice.

In addition, unlike other devices, the “Project Natal” sensor is not light-dependent. It can recognize you just by looking at your face, and it doesn’t just react to key words but understands what you’re saying. Call a play in a football game, and players will actually respond.
