They say love is blind, but when the relationship has been conducted purely online and there are large sums of money involved, there are bound to be tears.
According to police reports, a 48-year-old US man paid a total of $200,000 in ransom to several different bank accounts in Nigeria, Malaysia and England to help his online girlfriend he was led to believe had been kidnapped in London.
But, the kidnapping, like the girlfriend, turned out to be fake. The only hard cold fact was that the man had been conned out of $200,000 to rescue a woman he never met and had been fooled into believing existed with a sample driver’s licence from Florida.
A fool and his money have ever been easily parted, but add virtual romance into the mix, and as far as Dowtime can see, it just gets that bit easier.
