The IT industry, the armed forces and most yachtsmen I know have back-up systems — even my rock band does. From redundancy to disaster recovery our industry has laboured long and hard to ensure continuity of service. Where was government’s back-up to economic melt-down? Surely they must have stress tested the system like we do – pushed it to its theoretical uttermost to find the weak link!
Or have we as a society fallen into the monoculture trap – relying just on money with no alternative? It’s reminiscent of early Windows’ blue screen of death – a non-recoverable wipe out – then an almost monopoly OS.
With projects cancelled and discretionary spending slashed perhaps it’s time that we invented some alternatives to doing what we do other than solely for money – we are after all the innovation industry – it’s something we should collaborate on. It’s time to think outside the money-box.
