Financial firm replaces SQL DAS with EMC
StoreFinancial, a prepaid card processor, has replaced the direct attached storage (DAS) used for its SQL Server environment with a multiprotocol EMC CLARiiON CX3 system. An EMC press release quotes Jim Poteet, StoreFinancial's director of technology, as saying that moving the SQL Server database to a Fibre Channel partition on the CX3 improved the response time by 70%. The company is also using an iSCSI partition on the box for tiered storage purposes.
BlueArc announced that the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing at Purdue University has deployed a Titan 2000 network attached storage (Nas) system. The Titan will support data from research computation generated by life science and climate modelling applications.
Microseismic picks Panasas
Panasas announced that seismic imaging firm MicroSeismic has deployed the Panasas ActiveStor Parallel Storage Cluster. Panasas claims MicroSeismic has halved the time it takes to process images for oil and gas customers after implementing its system.
ExaGrid lands patents
ExaGrid has been awarded two patents: US Patent No. 7,246,140, Method and Apparatus for Storage System to Provide Distributed Data Storage and Protection, and US. Patent No. 7,246,275, Method and Apparatus for Managing Data Integrity of Backup and Disaster Recovery Data. The patents cover ExaGrid's disc-based backup products with byte-level data deduplication.
HDS picks up QLogic San router
QLogic announced that its Sanbox 6142 intelligent storage router is now available from Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) and qualified as interoperable with HDS Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage systems.
