Industry calls for user choice over pay per click advertising
I was immensely heartened to read the Outlaw.Com note “Europe should adopt US behavioural advertising icon – and quick” . I do not always agree with what I receive from Outlaw.com but it is an immensely valuable service and this proposal seems far more sensible that most of the alternatives under discussion.
The research quoted looked credible – and fits with that in the UK on privacy and consent which I have quoted in previous blogs – i.e. most consumers/customers want a choice – but once they are offered a reasonable choice they are usually happy to accept the default.
The suggestion that industry take a lead before regulation is forced on them is also eminently sensible. Especially since regulators rarely allow consumers a choice. They prefer to take it for them – because nanny state knows best.
