SmartSantander, a smarter city
SmartSantander offers applications to its citizens to encourage the use of these smart technologies.
One way to encourage citizens to download the app was to integrate the platform with an existing promotional mobile website. There are 2,600 tags in shops and businesses around the city that display QR codes and NFC tags in their windows to provide customers with additional information when they are closed or special offers to promote the shop. The new SmartSantander application provides a barcode scanner to allow citizens to scan the QR code.
The SmartSantander application now has 16,000 active users, while an additional application that encourages citizens to report problems and provide community data has 6,000 users.
