Microsoft has hired an anti-virus industry veteran to help head up its developing security business.
Vincent Gullotto, the former head of McAfee's Antivirus and Vulnerability Emergency Response Team (AVERT), will be general manager of Security Research & Response at Microsoft.
Gullotto left McAfee earlier this year. Microsoft launched its first consumer anti-virus product called Windows Live OneCare this May, and is currently planning its Forefront Client Security enterprise offering.
Microsoft's Security Research & Response group is part of the company’s Security Technology Unit, which is responsible for securing the Windows operating system and other Microsoft products.
The group is separate from the Microsoft Security Response Center, which deals with security incidents.
