Global manufacturing firm 3M has extended an agreement with Indian IT services provider Cognizant for application development and maintenance services.

The multimillion-pound agreement extends the firms' 10-year relationship for another five years. Cognizant will provide a managed services model and has been set targets to improve productivity and accelerate product development, said the supplier.

"Cognizant's model and proven industry expertise will help accelerate our efforts to drive cost efficiencies and further transform the relationship we began in 2001," said Ernie Park, CIO of 3M.

Francisco D'Souza, Cognizant CEO, added, "The transition to a managed services model represents a significant evolution in our relationship with 3M."

It will work to reduce the cost of ownership across 3M's application portfolio, including mission-critical software.
