Ahead of the release of the Apple Watch, LG has announced the LG Watch Urbane, a new smartwatch aimed at the fashion-conscious market.
The Android Wear-powered device shares a lot in common with the LG G Watch R, but moves away from the sporty look and instead offers a more classic design.
The Urbane, which will likely be launched at Mobile Word Congress (MWC) next month, is yet another entry into a market which, as of right now, is an unknown quantity. To date, wearables have been highly focused on fitness, but the channel is watching closely to see if any of the players manage to break into the enterprise space. Devices like the LG Watch Urbane and the Apple Watch mark the first potential entry points due to their professional looks.
“The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.”
The LG Watch Urbane sports a 1.3-inch 320 x 320 OLED display, 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 chipset and 4GB of internal storage.
