Azzurri chairman takes up interim CEO role

Azzurri's chairman is to become interim CEO once the current incumbent leaves the firm next month

Azzurri's chairman is taking on the role of interim CEO from early next month after the current incumbent steps down and will spearhead the firms growth plans and handle a planned programme of restructuring.

With Vim Vithaldas departing as CEO on 11 June the current chairman Steve Andrews will cover on an interim basis and will have responsibility for the firm's three-year growth strategy and restructuring.

Vithaldas joined Azzurri to replace Mark Quartermaine in December 2011, with a brief to keep a steady hand on the wheel and guide the firm – which was burdened with high levels of debt and had run through a number of CEOs in a short space of time – back to profitable growth.

Having overseen the refinancing of the firm – a process that wrapped up last October – and paid down its debt from over £100m to around £25m, Vithaldas said that for family reasons the time had now come to step back and he announced plans to leave at the start of the year.

The growth strategy is based on pushing its managed communications services via a cloud and managed services approach but at the same time it has already signaled plans to close the High Wycombe office and logistics centre in Aldridge with a cost of 24 jobs as it consolidates in a single building in Weybridge.

In the past couple of months the channel player has launched ICON Communicate, a cloud-based managed communications services offering and ICON Mobilise to offer mobile device support for customers.

“We are extremely well positioned to deliver value to both our customers and shareholders as the economy improves. Azzurri is renowned for its expertise in delivering competitive enterprise communications solutions and understanding its customers’ needs both today and for the future. This restructuring will deliver new services, increased efficiency and focus to meet these goals," said Andrews.

“I am looking forward to both my time as interim CEO and to announcing my full time replacement in the very near future," he added.
