Cloudera offers AI inferencing progression & unified data access

Cloudera has this month developed its expansion to Cloudera AI Inference and Cloudera Data Warehouse with Trino to on-premises environments.

The company says this move will empower customers to harness advanced AI and analytics directly from within their datacentres.

But, first, let’s just define these technologies…

Cloudera AI Inference works to securely deploy and scale production AI models across hybrid clouds. Cloudera Data Warehouse is a technology designed to run a containerised platform for high-performance SQL analytics on hybrid data lakes. Trino is an open source distributed SQL query engine designed to query massive datasets distributed across heterogeneous data sources, such as data lakes.

Cloud, edge & datacentre

The company also announced enhanced AI and analytics capabilities within Cloudera Data Visualization, a move designed to help streamline AI workflows across cloud, edge and datacentre.

According to Cloudera, as enterprises move from AI experimentation to production, it’s no longer just about where data is stored, but about providing AI with secure, reliable and governed access to that data, wherever it resides.

“By guaranteeing that AI applications can access [data warehouse] data securely, organisations can extract meaningful insights without transferring sensitive information outside of protected environments. This approach helps to minimise security risk [and it]  limits compliance exposure and streamlines operations,” noted the company, in a technical briefing statement.

Cloudera AI Inference is powered by Nvidia technology on premises and the company says that this means organisations can deploy and scale any AI model, including the latest Nvidia Nemotron open models – from LLMs, fraud detection, computer vision, voice etc.  – directly within their datacentres.

“These advancements provide our customers with a superior level of control and flexibility,” said Leo Brunnick, chief product officer at Cloudera. “With Cloudera AI Inference, Cloudera Data Warehouse with Trino and Cloudera Data Visualization all accessible in the datacentre, organisations can securely deploy AI and analytics exactly where their most critical data resides.”

The enhancements to Cloudera Data Visualisation include

  • AI annotation: Instantly generate summaries and contextual insights for charts and visuals, without manual writing, enhancing clarity across a data estate.
  • Resilient AI features: Features now handle transient issues and provide detailed usage analytics for easy monitoring and optimisation.
  • AI query logging and traceability: Each AI query logs message ID, timestamp and question for traceability, streamlining transparency and issue resolution.
  • Simplified admin management: Easily assign admin roles using updated configuration parameters to streamline SSO-based setup by removing hard-coded credentials and manual user promotion.

Brunnick and team further state that Cloudera Data Warehouse with Trino enables centralised security, governance and observability across the entire data estate. With integrated AI-powered analytics and visualisation, enterprises can work with complex data without compromising security, compliance, or operational control.

According to Cloudera’s recent report, The State of Enterprise AI and Data Architecture, nearly half of companies store their data in a data warehouse.
