Using Twitter as a means of channel and customer communication has been given a thumbs up by Symantec's UK channel boss.

Walker, director of SMB and distribution in the UK agreed to take questions for an hour this lunchtime on Twitter in a display of innovative interaction with the channel.

The session dealt with queries about the use of social networking tools to spread relevant information to partners, as well as using the technology to keep customers abreast of the latest security threats.

"Any medium that improves consistency and frequency of comms between the channel and vendors is a good thing," he tweeted. "Its full potential has yet to be realised. It's a simple and effective way to update customers and resellers."

He also saw Twitter as being a good way of alerting customers and partners to the latest threats and revealed the vendor has been trialling this recently.

Walker was also asked about helping smaller partners compete against larger resellers that were able to take advantage of their size and replied by underlining the SMB programme the vendor has set up to reward and encourage smaller partners.
