Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 sneaks out

It would make sense that at every mobile trade show the gathered industry execs and enthusiasts would get excited about new products from arguably the biggest mobile brand out there right now.

However, at this week's Mobile World Congress, there seemed to be little fanfare around the launch of its new tablet - the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.

A press release was snuck out in the early hours of Sunday morning, sharing details of the specifications of the mini tablet, such as the 8"screen, 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and the choice of 16GB or 32GB internal memory.

There have also been improvements to the S Pen stylus that is the key feature of the Note devices, such as being able to use it on the physical buttons for the first time or even more sensitivity for its Air View technology, meaning you don't even have to touch the screen to use it.

However, nobody seemed particularly excited about it, even the news hungry journalists who got their first peek at it at an event held on Sunday night. Word on the trade show floor was the success of the Galaxy Note II smartphone was so unexpected, the manufacturer thought it would be worth pushing out another Note tablet. Nothing ground breaking, but it might get some traction from Galaxy Note II fans.

As a particular fan girl of the range, I can see Samsung's thinking and I found the device a pleasure to use. However, I can't see those other than Samsung obsessives paying out for the device when it launches in the second quarter of 2013.
