HP has confirmed that it will reduce its workforce by
5,700 across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) over the
next two years.
It will start consulting with representatives in each country in
the second half of June, although it said it was not yet known how
many would come from the UK.
It said in a statement, "The break-down of affected positions in
businesses and functions on country level will be evaluated in the
coming weeks."
However union Unite yesterday said HP is moving some of its
manufacturing work from
Scotland to the Czech Republic, with the loss of around 800
jobs.
The company said, "HP has presented a plan to relocate its EMEA
Enterprise, Storage and Servers (ESS) production from Germany and
Scotland to a partner company in the Czech Republic during
2010."
The cuts are in addition to previously announced losses. HP has
around 80,000 employees in EMEA.
The company said, "HP will continue to transform its business on
an ongoing basis to ensure the company builds a strong future for
its customers, partners and employees."
