Bringing broadcast content back in-house

In 2018, Wimbledon championships organiser the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) opened its new in-house broadcast centre, aiming to take more control of the digital content produced from the tournament in the social media age.

For 80 years, the BBC looked after all broadcast content on behalf of the AELTC, but now the UK's national broadcaster takes the same video, audio and data feeds as other international broadcasters. The move gives the championships more options and more flexibility when it comes to areas such as video formats or how it packages up content, and opens up potential future opportunities in a world where internet streaming is introducing new routes to market.

The broadcast centre is a clear sign that Wimbledon is moving with the technological times in a fast-changing internet content environment.
