Voltas improves profitability with BI technology
The Electrical and Mechanical Division (EMD) is an international engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for electro-mechanical and electrical power projects. The project management services it offers include electrical building services, HVAC, plumbing, public health, fire fighting, ELV and specialized systems.
As a project-driven business, the senior managers at EMD needed to understand the performance of each project across metrics such as cost incurred, turnover, consolidated balance sheet, manpower trends, project profitability, etc. Prior to implementation of SAP BI, the Voltas' IT team manually consolidated these data points from the financial performance reports of individual projects to create presentations. As the division operates in more than 30 countries, there are multiple currencies involved, further making the report generation time-consuming and error-prone.
With the BI tool from SAP, this entire process is now automated, leaving no room for errors or delays. With BI, the management can avail of an overview of the division as well as can drill-down to individual metrics in real time. "The implementation of SAP's BI tool has also helped EMD to ensure timely billing. BI reports help EMD to proactively analyze the project-outstandings," says Prasanna Wadke, senior manager - corporate IT, Voltas Ltd.
