Voltas improves profitability with BI technology

Sometimes a small initiative could lead to larger and better things. Like it happened to engineering solutions and projects specialist form, Voltas Ltd. What started out as a small IT initiative significantly evolved to improve the company’s profitability across its business structure. And what led to this profitability was the deployment of business intelligence (BI) technology.

Prior to the deployment of a separate tool for BI, Voltas used limited functionality of SAP ECC to generate reports. The company went in for SAP Business Information Warehouse for data warehousing and SAP Business Object (BO) in 2008-09 for intelligent reporting and dashboards. Soon after, starting with EM&RBG, it included five more divisions when it deployed BI technology. They were:

1. Electrical, mechanical and refrigeration business group (EM&RBG)

2. Unitary cooling products business group (UPBG)

3. Human resources

4. Mining and construction equipment unit (MNCE)

5. Electrical and mechanical division (EMD)

Prasanna Wadke, Senior Manager - Corporate IT, Voltas Ltd, says, “Although technology implementation was spearheaded by the IT team, we got the executive buy-in early on. This helped us to roll the same out across five business units within a year.
