The SharePoint Newsfeed is an activity feed in SharePoint team sites. Users can post messages, “like” posts, and follow contacts or documents. Users can get email alerts when there is new activity on a subject to which they have subscribed. This is where Microsoft is bringing elements familiar from sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus into SharePoint, a private, managed environment. Microsoft’s acquisition of Yammer and Skype is behind some of the social networking and communication features in Office 2013. Users can integrate Lync with Skype and aggregate existing contacts.
