Foundry Networks has unveiled two 10 Gigabit Ethernet application acceleration switches to support voice over IP (VoIP) and other web applications.

Both the ServerIronGT switches will be available next month and will cost around £23,600. There are two optional modules for SSL acceleration to go with the switches, which will cost between £5,900 and £10,600.

SSL acceleration solutions make sure the most important users get the best connections, and that network security checks for users are done as quickly as possible.

Foundry said the switches were for busy datacentres handling increasingly converged network traffic covering voice, video and data.

With its web SSL acceleration modules, Foundry is competing in an increasingly crowded market, which already consists of F5 Networks, Citrix-owned Netscaler, Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks and Radware.

The wider adoption of SSL-based acceleration solutions has also been fuelled by the wider use of SSL-based VPNs, which sees any browser-based device being able to secure a closed connection to a corporate network.
