11. Joanna Shields, managing director, Facebook Europe

Joanna Shields is responsible for building the company’s revenue and for developing strategic partnerships across the region. She was a former Executive VP for People Networks at AOL until May, 2009. As AOL Executive Vice President and President of People Networks, Joanna was responsible for extending the global reach of AOL’s social networks and fully integrating Bebo, AIM, ICQ, Goowy Media and Yedda. 

Before joining AOL, Shields was President of Bebo. Prior to Bebo, Shields was Managing Director for Google Europe, Russia, Middle East & Africa. With a career spanning 20 years she has also held senior management positions at RealNetworks (Vice President, International), Veon (CEO), Decru (VP and managing director EMEA) and Electronics for Imaging (VP of worldwide sales). Shields serves on the Council member of British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and the Fundraising Board of There4Me, the online unit of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
