Banca Intesa ditches legacy storage

The London branch of Banca Intesa has installed two 3PAR InServ Storage Servers to support its mission-critical capital markets and merchant banking applications.

The Italian banking firm has also deployed 3PAR’s Remote Copy and mySnapshot to provide disaster recovery and application test capabilities as part of a storage overhaul.

London branch IT manager Salvatore Catalfamo said, “With 3PAR Utility Storage, we have not only met our growth and disaster recovery requirements, but have done so for dramatically less cost and effort than any other alternative would have allowed us. Our storage service levels are higher than ever before, yet we spend significantly less effort delivering them.”

The bank made the move because its legacy storage systems could no longer scale to match its requirements or meet its stringent disaster recovery requirements.

The new system includes 3PAR’s Remote Copy array-based replication technology, deployed over an IP network, to provide disaster recovery for Intesa’s Sybase production environment and other databases. The bank can also create multiple read/write virtual boot images for each of its servers with 3PAR’s Virtual Copy software.

The deployment also includes mySnapshot, which allows developers to quickly update copies of test data without relying on storage administrators or lengthy data restore processes.
