BOC rolls out open source Wiki knowledge management solution

Industrial and consumer gas supplier BOC is rolling out the open source MediaWiki knowledge management system across its businesses.

The BOC Group has selected UK-based Sirius Corporation to help implement the system.

BOC required a knowledge capture tool, available to all users, to be able to share information easily and gain immediate feedback.

BOC knowledge manager John Hobday said, “The Wiki approach has improved collaboration amongst geographically dispersed groups within BOC.

“In fact it's been so well received that it's becoming an integral part of our knowledge capture and transfer processes for outsourcing and insourcing,” said Hobday.

BOC said the system provided a simple user interface for both contributing and tracking information..

MediaWiki is written in PHP and MySQL. As MediaWiki is open source, there are no annual or per user licence fees to pay.
