Antony Savvas

Leading Linux software provider Red Hat has reported a 46% increase in year-on-year group sales for the first quarter ending May, and a 63% increase in enterprise subscription revenue.

Total sales were $60.8m (£32m) and enterprise subscription sales were $48.7m. Net profit was $12.4m, which represented a more modest 5% rise.

During the quarter Red Hat launched Red Hat Directory Server to provide an open source identity management solution for enterprises.

Red Hat also recently announced it would be rolling out Linux e-learning programmes to secondary schools in the UK as part of its strategy to popularise the use of open source software to young computer users.
