Convergence calls at college
BT has installed a new £150,000 converged voice and data network at Cornwall College’s new campus building.
The new St Austell Lan provides a communications infrastructure to support Cornwall College’s learning applications and its general office, e-mail, internet and administrative programmes.

The solution also gives Cornwall College high-speed, high-capacity data processing across the site and supports the college’s ongoing migration to IP telephony.
Cornwall College’s decision to implement a new BT solution was prompted by a need to improve its existing telephony infrastructure. The performance of college equipment was compromised when campus mergers brought together equipment from four different manufacturers.
Steve Cant, Cornwall College head of information technology services, says, “We have increasingly had interoperability issues with our old telephony system and it no longer offers us the features and functionality we require going forward.”
