Programme gets new joint head
The national programme for IT in the NHS has a new joint head. Alan Burns, chief executive of Trent Strategic Health Authority will combine his current job with a new role leading the implementation of the national plan.
Burns' appointment follows the announcement that Aidan Halligan, joint senior responsible owner of the national programme, is to leave the Department of Health.
A spokesman for the national plan said Burns would be supported in his new role by two senior directors and four clinical leads at national level.
Burns joins Richard Granger, director general of NHS IT, who also leads the national programme.
