ITV has appointed Paul Dale as its chief technology officer in a bid to catch up with rivals in its multimedia offerings. This is the first time a CTO has joined the company's board.

Dale joins ITV from TV operator Astro, where he held the same position. He was also formerly Sky's media technology director.

Chief executive of ITV Adam Crozier said, "ITV has lagged behind it competitors for too long in terms of technology. Paul's arrival signals a commitment to completely reshape our digital future."

Dale said his appointment represents a major shift for the company. "As CTO I will be working with the management team to progress the transformation plan, unlocking ITV's full potential to create a sustainable business with more ways for viewers to watch and interact with ITV's great brands and content," he said.
