Channel player ASM Technologies has launched a hardware lifecycle management service for system integrators and distributors looking for external help replacing and disposing of kit.
The lifecycle management service works within a WEEE framework to ensure that any hardware taken away to be recycled or thrown away matches EU regulations as well as also covering the initial delivery and any upgrades during the term of the user agreement.
The service from ASM is being pitched as providing better warranty support and quicker access to stocks because of the muscle that the channel player is putting behind the scheme.
Iain Tomkinson, sales director at ASM Technologies, said that the service had been launched because most SIs wanted to concentrate on their main business and did not want to be bogged down with hardware management.
“Lifecycle management has long been considered a necessary evil when selling and implementing IT hardware. Yet the physical side of handling returns, replacements and the disposal or recycling of IT hardware is not a core service of the channel, so why should it do it?" he asked.
"Physically carrying electrical equipment from the cradle to the grave is simply not the core business of the channel," he added.
