Veeam is planning to 'rekindle' its channel as it looks to encourage more of them to help take customers into the cloud and develop their own skills in delivering hosted solutions.

The virtualisation specialist recently recruited Taisha Betz as channel manager charged with leading its channel alliances programme, with a CV that includes spells at both Avnet and Microsoft.
Ian Wells, director of Northern EMEA at Veeam, said that the appointment of Betz and a major product release next week would give it more to talk to the channel about and help them drive growth over the rest of this year.
"There is a lot of emphasis on strengthening the channel and we want to rekindle that spark," he added that one of the main aims was to encourage partners to add cloud storage to sales.
"It is all about baby steps and when you sell a cloud license you could sell some cloud storage with offering backup as a service and the customer might appreciate that," he said.
Wells said there was still education needed, in both the reseller and customer bases, as more cloud opportunities were out there for those that were prepared to develop skills around that technology.
Doug Hazelman, vice president of product strategy at Veeam, said that resellers would see a lot of activity from the vendor this year as it looked for growth, backed by some major product releases.
