With stores closing and staff heading for the door the time for a white knight to ride in and save what is left of Comet is fast evaporating.
But it appears that there could be a mystery bidder happy to take on the struggling retailer according to reports.
The Telegraph has linked Clive Coombes, who is a turnaround expert running his own business CC Business Angels, as the front man for a group of private backers who are prepared to step in and save Comet.

The administrators Deloitte have been open ever since they were appointed to potential bidders and should have a look at any deals that emerge.
The Coombes connection comes after a week when it looked like the web side of the Comet business could be snapped up by DRL, which own Appliances Online and runs Argos's website operations.
other retailers, including TK Maxx and Dixons Retail, have also been linked with the prospect of taking some of the individual shop units off the administrators hands.
So far there has not been an update from Deloitte about the business following its move last week to shut stores and cut more staff from the retailer.
