MessageLabs has announced the acquisition of Fortium ICA in a move to bolster its position as a SaaS player.

The security specialist already operates in the e-mail and instant messaging space and will now add the image analysis specialisation of Fortium ICA. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

In a statement, Stephen Chandler, CFO of MessageLabs, said that it had invested in Fortium in the past and now would continue the development of the software in-house.

All of the current Fortium license agreements will be maintained and MessageLabs has outlined a three-year support package for the ICA product.

"After working closely with MessageLabs for many years on the development of our technology, we are confident that this move will benefit the technology itself as well as the OEM partners and all their users," said Mathew Gilliat-Smith, CEO of Fortium Technologies.
