The old adage about locals buying locally is proving to be the case with Trustmarque's office North of the Border.

The old adage about locals buying locally is proving to be the case with Trustmarque's office North of the Border.

The reseller has officially opened its Scottish office and the reaction from existing customers has been positive and the channel player is setting targets that will see it cranking up its level of business in Scotland.

Gerry Tough, country manager for Scotland at Trustmarque, said that it "needed to be here" to grow its business in the country and it had made an investment of half a million and employed staff at its Edinburgh Park office.

"This is a standalone organisation to drive the value and customers have changed in Scotland and it makes sense to be embedded there," he said.

At the same time the reseller confirmed it has set up its enterprise solutions group to provide services to customers.

As revealed at the start of the month, David Papworth, a former managing consultant at Hewlett-Packard, is running the division which has been bolstered by training and the recruitment of extra staff.

Scott Haddow, CEO of Trustmarque, said that it has always had technical expertise around the business "but never in the depth we have now".

"Customers are moving away from the big outsourcing deals and want to work with someone that wants to work with their existing IT team adding help with subject matter and experts," he said.

He added that one of the positives of the downturn had been the ability to recruit some highly skilled staff that were currently in the job market.
