Security distribution specialist ComputerLinks has launched a physical security division in a move that opens up a growing market to data resellers.

In an indication of convergence being driven by digital technology between two traditionally separate markets the distributor is offering its resellers a chance to have a crack at an emerging market.
The distributor has been talking about the growth in networked CCTV cameras and the need for those physical security tools to be integrated into the network and then beyond into a corporate security policy.
John Turner, who is heading up the IP physical security division, said that there was a convergence between physical and data security and it would enter that market handling Milestone Systems and Panasonic System products.
"The UK is the largest market for video surveillance in the world and 80% of that is still based on analogue," he said.
"There is convergence of the buyer with IT departments becoming interested in their physical side of operations," he added.
Dave Ellis, head of professional training and e-security at the distributor, said that being able to talk about a wider pitch handed resellers the chance to gain a greater executive relationship with customers.
To help resellers enter the market ComputerLinks is offering site surveys and training to help IT security resellers get a handle on the physical world.
Already the physical storage world has been identified as a growth market for the storage industry as the digital cameras increase the amount of data that needs to be backed up and stored.
